I was listening to a successful high profile minister say that too many times we take passages from the OT and attempt to bring them into the NT when there were meant for a specific people as the above.

Does not God still have a plan for his children today as He did then for His children after their 70 years in Babylon? Are there not other scriptures that support its continuing relevance. Why did God include Jeremiah 29:11

Yeah, I would say sin at the very least hinders God's best plan for us. In Jer. 18:11, it would bring judgement. But consider:

The interesting part about Jeremiah 29is that God warns the people not to listen to false prophets. The plans God had for the immediate audience were that they would become established in Babylonian captivity and raise families there. Likely many of them never saw the ultimate fulfillment in their lifetime. Many of the 'prophets' today who prophesy about great plans almost always speak about prosperity and promotion. Does God have plans for us? Absolutely! Do they

The WOF error relies heavily on superimposing OT promises for Israel to the Church. Much of the OT blessings included health, houses, and lands. Most of the NT blessings are spiritual in nature. That doesn't mean God doesn't bless Christians with material things. It doesn't negate the promise of give and it shall be given unto you either. But balance is key.

I think God wants to get across to us: True riches vs. bobbles and beads.Imagine if people were so close to God, and filled with joy and peace that they felt like they needed nothing else. Then any material blessings they might receive from God would be icing on the cake. That's a great life! But reading Jeremiah 29:11, it seems to me that the plans God was speaking of were more When seventy years are completed. He was essentially saying, You're going into captivity. Get that straight. But that doesn't mean I don't have great plans for you in the future. So don't lose hope. But I agree, I can see Babylon as being a part of His plan at that time, at least a preparation for a greater fulfillment. Even in their captivity, God showed He was still with them.
